We don’t just talk about sustainability; we plant it. Olive trees sequester CO₂ over many years, thereby helping to stabilize the local ecosystem. We have already planted 500 young olive trees in the Douro region, forming the foundation of our mission. These trees are already actively removing CO₂ from the air—our live counter shows you the real-time impact of the total savings achieved since planting.
Landbande is growing step by step – just like our olive trees. With the Klimabande community, we want to give people the opportunity to further support the development of new project ideas related to nature, olive trees, and sustainable projects, thus promoting sustainable agriculture in Portugal in the long term. Here, we collect contributions together to make new projects possible.
While a sponsorship allows you to support a specific tree, the Climate Gang supports other projects.
We continuously develop which specific projects will be implemented based on our vision and ideas from the community. You can share your suggestions with us at any time in the comment section or use our voting platform – we will incorporate them into our planning.

The vote is a non-binding indication of the climate group's opinion. The result will be incorporated into our project planning; however, it does not guarantee the implementation of the most-voted project.
"Together we will grow new olive groves."
We are currently putting a lot of heart and soul into realizing new projects. Our goal is to preserve the olive grove as a valuable ecosystem and to develop new, regenerative areas. We are consistently committed to near-natural management instead of industrial monoculture. Through targeted soil care and the preservation of natural vegetation, we strengthen the entire ecosystem, promote local biodiversity, and protect the valuable soil from drying out and erosion.
We don't need anonymous investors for this, but rather people with awareness and conviction. With your one-off contribution or subscription, you not only support the development of our upcoming projects focused on olive trees, regenerative agriculture, and nature in Portugal, but also become part of a community that takes practical action on climate protection.
We share all our progress here on this page. So it's worth checking back from time to time to see what we're achieving together.

Our CO₂ live clock
* CO₂ Bonding through the planting of 500 olive trees in 10/2024
Methodology & Transparency Note on CO₂ Visualization
The CO₂ clock displayed on this website is a visualization and information tool. It illustrates the calculated carbon sequestration of our olive tree plantations in northern Portugal. This presentation aims to raise awareness of the ecological impact of regenerative agriculture and complies with current requirements for environmentally related advertising under the German Act Against Unfair Competition (UWG).
1. Data basis and project status
The calculation is based on the initial planting of 500 olive trees in October 2024 in our project region in northern Portugal. The CO₂ clock begins counting from the moment the trees are actually planted.
2. Calculation factor (CO₂ absorption rate)
For the calculation, a conservative average value of 2 kg CO₂ binding per tree per year is used.
This value was deliberately chosen cautiously to avoid overstating the environmental impact (greenwashing). We take the following into account:
-
The young growth stage of trees (higher bonding dynamics during the growth phase).
-
Location-dependent factors in northern Portugal such as soil quality, climate and near-natural maintenance.
-
Natural fluctuations in biological development.
3. Scientific derivation
The CO₂ sequestration capacity of olive trees varies depending on age, variety, and management. According to the International Olive Council (IOC), olive groves act as highly efficient, permanent carbon sinks. IOC studies show that one hectare of olive grove can sequester up to 4.5 tons of CO₂ annually in the soil and biomass. In productive systems, the net CO₂ sequestration per liter of olive oil can reach up to 10 kg. Against this backdrop, our assumed value of 2 kg per tree represents a conservative estimate.
4. Calculation formula for the CO₂ clock
The amount of CO₂ shown is continuously determined based on the time elapsed since planting.
The formula is:
Total amount of CO₂ bound (kg) = 500 trees × 2 kg (per year/tree) × time since planting
5. Methodological Limitations & Disclaimer
No certification (carbon credits): This project is a self-initiated, renewable energy project. The figures do not represent certified emission reductions (e.g., according to the Gold Standard or VCS) and are not intended for official emissions trading or carbon neutrality accounting according to ISO 14064.
Biological variability: Actual carbon sequestration can vary due to climatic conditions (e.g., extreme droughts). The clock serves to illustrate the long-term ecological potential. Disclaimer: The display does not constitute a statement about full CO₂ compensation of an individual user's footprint or certified climate neutrality of our company or our products. It solely records the biological carbon sequestration capacity of the trees mentioned.
